Public Parks and Open Spaces
Blackburn and Darwen has a large number of parks and open spaces for the public to enjoy. Municipal parks originated in the UK, with royal parks in London, but it was in Glasgow and the Industrial North West where the the idea of land set aside for the public to enjoy and relax took hold, mainly as a result of the growth of industrial towns. Preston was to have the first park in a new industrial town.
