Victoria Street 039
Early 20th Century image of Victoria Street, looking from Church Street. This lower part of Victoria Street no longer exists. On the left of the image can be seen the market square and the rear of the Market Hall and the Town Hall. It will be noted the woman crossing the street has covered her hair due, at the time, to the persistence of medieval notions of female 'modesty'.
