Higher Audley Street Mill 006
Higher Audley Street Mill. Established 1862-64 by John Woods a local builded who was bankrupt before the mill was completed. Purchased by John Dugdale and Sons c 1868, who added a weaving shed and enlarged the original building. The mill closed in 1959 by Cotton Industry Act. both spinning and weaving mills were demolished during the Audley renewal scheme of the mid 1970's. Remains, section of canal side retaining wall near to Audley Bridge. St.Paul's church has been erected on part of the mill site. rnMike Rothwell
