Peppermint Place Refurbishment 008
img0541-026P. Peppermint Place had two separate discos, allowing each to cater for different musical tastes. The smaller of the two – Kaleidoscope – played dance music, free from the cheesy party music in the main room that the Kaleidoscope DJ disparagingly referred to as ‘Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.’ Certainly, that particular single (a number one hit for Middle of the Road back in 1971) seemed to spend more than its fair share of time on the turntable. In 1991, Kaleidoscope closed for a complete refurbishment, the early stages of which are seen here. This shows the new seating bay, which was on the left-hand side of the room as customers entered from reception. The photos Refurbishment 009 and 015 were taken from the same spot as work progressed.rn
