Golden Lion 002
b02181. The Golden Lion Hotel, Church Street was a Dutton house. For many years the Golden Lion, one of the town's oldest inn's, was the depot for local stage waggons or land carriers, as they were termed. Several of it's landlords were local characters, such as Robert Riding, better known as Cock Robin, a notable sportsman, who died in 1857. On the occasion of the flood in 1901, when a depth of 3ft 6in was recorded in Water Street, the cellars of the Golden Lion were completely submerged and empty beer barrels were to be seen floating about the vicinity. The last landlord, before it was demolished in June 1958, was Alexander Graham. date of photograph is 1952. M. 851 Gol.rn
