Home Guard 007
Early 1940s Home Guard unit based at Mullard's, possibly taken outside 'A' Building. Formed in 1940 when there was the prospect of an invasion, the Home Guard was stood down in 1944 when the threat had passed. Over 1.5 million men volunteered for service during that time. The Guard standing second right on the fourth row is seventeen year old Alan Monk. Alan subsequently joined the Royal Corps of Signals and served with the Eighth Army. After the war Alan resumed his employment at Mullard's until retirement forty years later.
