Witton Mill.rnA weaving shed close to Griffin Mills, built in 1851-52 by W.R. Woods and Henry Marsden, 356 looms in 1854. A number of houses on Lansdowne Street were provided for employees. Joseph Harrison joined the partnership soon after weaving began. Wood retired in 1854, the firm becoming Harrison Brothers and Co. Marsden left in 1859. Enlarged in 1878-9. Mill sold to William Walker in 1905. In 1915-16 J.W Walsh of the Garden St. Mill Co Ltd took over, trading as the Witton Mill Co. the present Witton Mill Co Ltd was registered in 1935 by the Walsh Family. An interesting feature is the memorial tablet to employees killed in the Great War, amomg them a member of the Walsh Family. rnMike Rothwell.
