Whalley Bank Mill 002
Whalley Banks Shed, Pump Street.rnBuilt in 1858-59 by John Dean and leased to a former handloom manufacturer, James Fielding. The mill earned the nickname "Thunder and Leetnin" owing to the religious convictions of an early master. Employeed 136 in 1861. Fielding left in 1862-3 to take over Belle Vue Mill. Leased to Robert Towers and Son, later Towers, Son and Coupe. By 1874 John Coupe originally a manager of Fielden and Jackson, was running the shed alone. In 1897 when Coupes sold the property machinery included 288 looms. Shed extended in 1905. Plant sold 1931. H. Robinson (Damask) Ltd formed 1934, to run new shed. Following second World War, production transferred to Armenia Mill, buildings sold 1957. Remains perimeter wall.
