Unity Mill Weaving 002
b22843. Unity Mill, Lower Darwen was built in 1905 by the Lower Darwen Mill Investment Co. Ltd. The mill was designed by Sames and Green, Blackburn. By 1911 there were 1022 looms. Weaving ended in 1975 and it was taken over by a kitchen Furniture manufacturer. The photograph shows 'Abdul', an Asian, weaver at his loom. The image was taken it was taken 18 December 1972 by photographer, Irene Reddish. Irene was from Newcastle exhibited 'Abdul' during an exhibition of her work entitled 'Blackburn Images' at the Lewis Textile Gallery during August 1973. M. 31 Uni.
