Throstle Nest Mill, Bank Top.rnRemains: none, excluding the perimeter wall along the river Blakewater, which predates the Corporation Destructor. Only the Turners Alms House (1833) survive of the large settlement of cottages built for the mill, they no longer exsist along with the Turners Arms, public house.rnHistory of the Mill: Seven storey mill and weaving shed of 1834-35. Erected by William Turner M.P of Mill Hill Printworks, for his sons William and Thomas. almost ninety cottages were built to accomodate the workforce. W.H and T.B Turner were bankrupt in 1843, the mill was worked therafter by the Throstle Nest Mill Co. By 1854 John Turner, a relative had taken over. In 1857 R and J Railton, ironfounders purchased the property in 1859, splitting it into seperate spinning and weaving mills. James Beads took over in 1880 and after his death the mill closed in 1888. 1893 the mill and weaving sheds were demolished. The Bank Top destructor (Blackburn Corporation tip) and water pump house were later built on the site. rnMike Rothwell.
