Southend Mill Darwen 001

Southend Mill Darwen. rnA lareg brick built weaving shed constructed in 1912-13 by the Albert Cotton Spinning Company Ltd. 672 looms. Followinf the end of trafing by the Albert Cotton Spinning and Manufacturing Company Ltd, the mill was purchased in 1932 by G.Jannink and Sons of Holland to weave furnishing fabrics. The firm later installed condenser ring frames to produce its own yarn. further improvements included the introduction of automatic looms, jacquards and a yarn and silk dyeing plant. A final development was the erection of a viscoses manufacturing plant in the late 1950's. In 1963 a receiver was apponted to G.Jannik and Sons Ltd and the mill closed. Since this date the buildings have been used by wallpaper and paint manufacturers. rnMike Rothwell
