Police Station 001
R32. Original Borough Police Office, off Clayton Street. The Borough Police was formed in 1852 and consisted of a Superintendant, a Sergeant and ten Constables. Their first office was a converted warehouse off Clayton Street, through the courtyard of the Hindle Mansion. It is interesting to note that the site is part of the same building utilized by John Kay, the old town Constable, as a lock-up some fifty years before. b23365.
