Peel Mill 002
b22800. This mill was erected in 1855 by James and Frances Johnson. It had 530 looms and employed 320 hands. by 1908 there were 772 looms working. The mill closed in 1931. After its closure it was used as a social centre for unemployed men. The mill re-opened for weaving after WW2. The mill closed in 1959 and the building used as a garage. Date of photograph 1970's.
