Hole House Mill 004
The derelict remains of a former cotton weaving mill on the canal opposite to Imperial Mills, Blackburn. It is likely to have been Hole House Mill. Built in 1860 by William Kenyon and Brothers but completion was delayed by the cotton famine. Three storey spinning mill. in 1869 John Smith a one time mayor of Blackburn, with a chequered business career, became associated with the site during the mid 1860's, becoming bankrup in 1870. For a time J and J H Kenyon occupied the mill followed by Thomas Abbott. Spinning mill was destroyed by fire in 1879. rnUnfinished shed completed in 1881. Taken over by Livesey, Smith and Forest . New shed built on spinning mill site 1905, looms increased in 1913 a second edition of looms. Smith and Forest, joinned Lancashire Cotton Corporation 1929, the newer part of the mill was leased to Wooly Mill Co Ltd. Closed in 1959 in connection with Cotton Industry Act. rnMike Rothwell.
