Harley Street Mill 001
Harley Street Mill. Established by William Fielden, Willian townley and William Throp. First spinning mill erected 1823-4, second in 1824. Weaving shed added 1828. A large settlement of back to back houses were built in Leyland and Harley Street and on George Street West. The firm became Sir Wm Feilden and Co., c1844 later Feilden and Jackson. R.R Jackson a nephew of Fielden took over in 1861. In 1884 R.R Jackson and Co Ltd ceased trading. The two spinning mills were demolished. Jackson leased Phoenix Mill and the surviving sheds at Harley Street as seperate units. rnMike Rothwell.
