Florence Mill 001
b022637. This Mill was built by William Birtwistle and named after his daughter. Its nick-name was "Average" because at the mill entrance was a notice which read; "We expect a good average". It was erected in 1889-90 and had 514 Lancashire looms. these were replaced in 1925 by automatic looms. Weaving ended at the mill in 1971. Date of photograph, 1974. M. 31 Flo.
