Dover Street Lower Darwen 004
Dover Street, Lower Darwen rnAssocisated housing. An extremely interesting group of pre 1850 housing survives to the north and east of Lower Darwen Mills and represents the best factory settlement now existing in Blackburn. almost 100 dwellings can be seen in Duchess, Empress, Fore, Dover and Back Dover Street and on Albert Place. All are constructed of watershot/random sandstone and most were originally two up two down. the better quality housing , with simple drip moulds, front Fore Street, while four very small cottages (without back doors) can be found on Back Dover Street. The mill school, now much altered, adjoins the passage way next to 11 albert Place. rnMike Rothwell
