Cotton Hall Shed 002

Cotton Hall Shed.rnA weaving shed of 311 looms, built in 1860-61 by James Garstang and Brothers of Lower Wood Mill. In 1886 Garstangs sold the premises to Whipp Brothers of Clitheroe. Manufacturing by Whipp Brothers and Company Ltd, ended in 1939 and the shed was later requisitioned for wartime use. after 1945 the mill was used for a number of purposes including shoe making. The preparation buildings on Lomax Street survived intact.The older portion is six windows long with a square section gutter. Adjoininh, nut at a slightly higher level, is the addidtion made by Whipp Brothers and Company. rnMike Rothwell.
