The estate known as Pemberton Clough, down which flowed the snig brook, was purchased from Joseph Feilden, the lord of the manor, to be converted into a park, in January, 1855. Its extent is upwards of 50 acres, including two lakes, formerly known as The Can and The Big Can. Which were the first reservoirs for the town's water supply. It's principal entrance is under a handsome arcuated gateway, having the borough arms carved in stone above the entablature. Corporation Park was opened by William Pilkington on 22nd October 1857.Q41cor.
