Culvert Mill Darwen 003

Culvert Mill, Darwen,rnA weaving shed of 120 looms built in 1856 by Joseph Entwistle. The mill was leased to numerous manufacturers during its productive life., including David Ainsworth and Company, T and W Green and J.B Deakin, who was employing 51 operatives in 1878. In 1890 the shed was enlarged to hold 180 looms. The last tenants, Baron Brothers took over c1905 and ran the shed until 1915. After a brief period as the yarn dyeing works of the Whitehall Bleaching and Dyeing Company Ltd, the mill was apparently disued for a number of years. The mill was then occupied as a engineers.rnMike Rothwell.
