Crown Hotel 007
Crown Hotel, Victoria Street, in the aftermath of the gas explosion that occurred shortly before four o'clock in the afternoon of 30th November 1891, resulting in five deaths and ten people injured. The American bazar (or sixpenny bazaar) next door was also wrecked. Two men, who attempted to remove a gas meter from the cellar of the Crown, were arraigned at the Manchester Assize on a charge manslaughter, but a Grand Jury decided there was no case to answer.
