Carr Cottage Mill 007

Carr Cottage Mill, Little Harwood.rnOccupied site of an erlier farmhouse of same name. Erected in 1860-61 by Charles Whitworth, cheese factor of Blackburn. Leased to Jackson, Grime and Co., who installed 248 looms. Bankrupt 1865, later Brown and Co., Thomas Abbott c 1869-77, Turner and Sons 1877-83. The Whalley New Road Mfg Co. Ltd., was formed by George Duckworth. William Eddleston continued as tenants of William Birtwistle who had purchased the mill c1887. small addition 1892, 299 looms in 1900. Major reconstruction 1912 J Duckworth and Son Ltd closed the mill in the mid 1930's although the plant was retained till the second world war. Various non textile uses after 1945. rnMike Rothwell
