Taken in 1954, this image is of the junction of Church Street and Victoria Street, showing Victoria Carpets with the Lee Ross cafe above on the first floor. The public house on the right of Victoria Carpets is the New Inn. The buildings on the site were soon to be demolished and replaced by a brand new Littlewoods Store, itself to disappear during the rebuilding frenzy which was to follow.rnThe much missed market-hall clock tower can be seen in the distance.
