Littlewoods 1955 003
Friday 29th October 1955 saw the 55th Littlewoods store in the chain open in Blackburn. Crowds, controlled by the police, gathered early for the special opening. The cutting of the ribbon was completed by Margaret Fineberg, chosen from all the stores as “Miss Littlewood, a post which she holds for 12 months.rnThe stores first two customers, who had queued for over an hour, Mrs Mary Cox and her four year old grandson David, and Mrs Irene Chorlton of Boland Street, Little Harwood received a bag full of groceries. Young David a large teddy bear.rnMembers of Littlewoods management team were also on hand during the proceedings, left to right, Mr. H. Heath, Mr. Alex Burgon and Mr. G. Hay.rn
