Born in Blackburn on the 26th February 1893, Dorothy Whipple (nee Stirrup) was the writer of fiction and childrens books. on her husbands death Dorothy returned to Blackburn where she died on the 14th of September 1966.rnHer books include; "They were Sisters" 1945, "They Knew Mr. Knight" 1946, "Because of the Lockwoods" 1949.rnThe photograh shows Dorothy outside a shop on New Bank Road Just a few months before her death.
