Whalley New Road 105
Image of Whalley New Road, Brookhouse, at the junction with Whalley Old Road which forks to the right. The 'New' road was built as a turnpike road, hence the building in the centre of the picture where tolls were collected for transit along the new road. As Turnpike Trusts were not renewed in the latter part of the nineteenth century, the roads became known as Main Roads.
