Thornton, H S R Rev 001
The Rev. H.S.R. Thornton MA. was a curate at Blackburn Parish Church (which became a Cathedral in 1926) when, in 1903 he became vicar of Holy Trinity Church following the death of Rev. Dr. Moffatt. Thornton resigned the vicariate of Holy Trinity in 1909 to accompany his father to the south of England. After service in the slums of London, British East Africa, and in France as an army Chaplain he undertook missionary work in Central America, where he died in Costa Rica in 1948. rnBiographical information 'Blackburn Times' 2 July 1948 and 'Northern Daily Telegraph 21 February 1903. During the Great War, Rev. Thornton served at the British Army Church Hospital, as an orderly in the St. John Ambulance Brigade and in thr French Red Cross.
