Samual Thornton (The Right Rev DD). Bishop of Manchester and Vicar of Blackburn. The Rev Thornton was also a noted poet. He resigned his position as vicar of the Parish Church (later, Cathedral) in 1909 to move to the south of England, and later became assistant Bishop of Manchester.
