Spring Bank Mill 013

Spring Bank Mill, Livesey.rnSmall spinning mill built by James and Thomas Whalley, John Kay and Richard Hacking. The original partnership was dissolved in 1861 and Hacking sold the mill to Thomas Howson, junior. Teale and Bateson took over c1867. Briefly operated by Walley and Whalley mid 1870's. Blackburn and worswick, were the final spinners at the mill. Following Blackburn's bankruptcy in 1884 the factory was purchased by John Stringer, machinist and mill furnisher. Later use to manufacture roller blinds and as a warehouse. Brick built four story mill on Albert Street. The engine house was built against the north wall of the mill. The chimney was demolished. rnMike Rothwell.
