Built to accommodate families relocated as part of the 1960s and 1970s ‘slum clearance’ drive, the lack of old-style community controls present in streets of terraced housing, meant the flats eventually proved a disaster and became known locally as ‘Alcatraz’ Demolished in March/April 1990.rnSeptember 1989.rnrnrn
