Salford Fountain 003
Railway Road, looking toward the Theatre Royal at the junction of Ainsworth Street and Holme Street. The fountain now has a long centre pole surmounted by a pair of hanging electric lamps, forming a 'Marian' M. The Billinge End route - which returned along Ainsworth Street - was the first to be electrified in 1899. All Salford tramway electrification work was completed by 1902. J. Hepworth and Sons Ltd. (tailors and clothiers) are listed in Barrett's directories as occupying 46 Church Street in 1903 and 1906 only. By 1909 this property had become the Offices of Blackburn Corporation Tramways. So the date of this photo is probably around 1905. rn
