James Rostron, Editor.rnA native of Bacup he went to work as a half-timer at seven years of age, later removing to the coal-pit where, after four years hard labour at the coal face, he decided mining was not his forte and returned to the weaving shed.rnAs a junior reporter he was first connected with a Macclesfield newspaper, then with the Bacup and Rossendale News. In 1886 he joined the staff of "The Blackburn Times" his appointment coinciding with the founding of the Lancashire Daily Post. In February 1893, he was with the Northern Daily Telegraph awhile, returning to "The Blackburn Times" as editor a year later. A fellow of the Royal Institute of Jounalists, he served on the old Technical Instruction Committee and in 1915 was co-opted to the Education Committee.rnHe died at 64, Lancaster Place in February 1927 aged 68.
