Rosehill Mill 003
Rosehill Mill, Eanam.rnBuilt 1860-61 by Wilan and Mills, machinists of Rosehill Foundary. Wilan and Mills never actually worked the mill but leased it to J and W E Briggs. After the failure of Briggs in 1891 the property was divided. Spinning taken by John Walker, formerly of Phoenix Mill, followed by Rose Hill Spinning Co. Ltd. After prolonged closure the Audley Ring Co Mill Ltd. was formed in 1912. The Albion Mill Co Ltd, Great Harwood , were the first tenants of the weaving shed, succeeded by the Calcutta Mill co. Ltd, James Dewhurst 1911-23. The shed last operated in 1927-28. Mill renovated in 1938 as Godfrey Works by Foster, Yates and Thom for engineering. Armament manufacture during second World War. Spinning mill eventually demolished. Engineering continued in surviving building. Remains: perimeter walls of spinning mill survive, north side has remains of engine beds and boiler seating. Part of weaving shed wall can be seen on Elizabeth Street. rnMike Rothwell
