Royshaw Mill 003

Royshaw Mill. Erected 1880-81 by Forrest, Crabtree and Co., successors to William Forrest, contractor and manufacturer of Eanam. Leased to Henry Livesey Ltd of Greenbank Foundry and Bright St. Mill. The mill produced fine shirtings. After an unsuccessful period under J Hargreaves and Co., (bankrupt 1895) the Royshaw Mill Co. Ltd was formed to work the mill. Later Thompson, Riley and Co Ltd. A second Royshaw Mill Company was registered in 1917. voluntary liquidatiion began 1928, mill closed and eventually demolished. rnRemains: majority of site occupied by garages and workshops. Two storey warehouse extension (1898) remains on west perimeter, part of shed wall on Hawthorn StreetrnMike Rothwell
