Public Halls 016
Public (Assembly) Halls Northgate, the foundation stone of which was laid by King George V and Queen Mary in 1913. Subsequently known as King George's Hall and opened by Lord Derby on 19th October 1921. Memorial organ unveiled in 1922 at a cost of £12,000. This was destroyed by a fire in 1981 and was replaced at a cost of £350,000. An opening concert took place on Tuesday 25th October 1921 by the St Cecilia and Vocal Union.
