Plantation Mill 005
Plantation Mill, Stanley Street was built in 1844-45 by W.H. and T.B. Turner, as a four storey spinning mill with 20,000 spindles. In 1912-13 the mill had 38, 968 ring spindles. Turners were forced to transfer the mill to Hornby and Kenworthy in 1848, but continued as tenants. Their sister Mary Jane Turner, was the last member of the family to work the mill in 1861. John Dugdale operated the factory untill 1959 The mill closed in 1959 under the Cotton Industry Act. and was later used as a warehouse.rnMike Rothwell.
