Potters of Darwen 003
Potters of Darwen (C and J.G Potter) were pioneering 19th century wallpaper manufacturers in Lancashire, established in 1839-1840. They revolutionized the industry by adapting steam-driven calico printing machinery to produce patterned wallpaper continuously, significantly lowering costs. The company, based at Belgrave Mills, became a major industrial force before joining the Wall Paper Manufacturers Ltd merger in 1899.rnWallpaper shown was designed by Lightown, Aspinall and Co, who were a prominent wallpaper manufacturer in Darwen, often associated with the broader Potter family and C and J.G Potter's pioneering machine printing works in the same area.
