Perseverance Mill Darwen 004

Industry or Perseverance Mill, Darwen.rnA weaving shed of 70 looms, built in 1860 by John Aspden, William Walmsley and Henry Cooper. Later additions increased looms to 192 and the workforce to 93. Aspden left the partnership in 1873, although he continued as manager until 1876 when he took over a mill at Walto-Le-Dale. Cooper withdrew in 1882 to run Starkie Street Mill. William Wamlsey finally retired in 1889, and leased the mill to John Watson and J.C Rawlinson. By 1891 the business had become Joseph Rawlinson and Company. Extended in 1892. By 1959 the mill had ceased operating. In 1971 Moorfield Textiles of Lancashire had taken over. Weaving was abandoned by the mid 1970's.rnMike Rothwell
