Ordnance Mill 001
b22808. This weaving and spinning Mill was built in 1855-87, by Robert Hopwood on land formerly owned by the Board of Ordnance It had 36,000 mule Spindles and 577 looms extended to 640 in 1889. The spinning mill was destroyed by fire in 1929. Weaving ended in 1934 and the mill was used for leather goods manufacturing from 1936. Date of photograph 1973. M. 31 0rd.
