Peel Fold 004
Peel Fold, Stanhill, taken in 1972 when the building was in poor condition. rnReputedly the birthplace of the first Sir Robert Peel, it once housed handlooms during the time of the 'golden age' of handloom weaving, a prosperity eventually undermined by the sheer numbers of those entering the trade. It was later the scene of block printing experiments. Before the Peels, it was held for generations by the Oldhams, and was known as Oldhams Cross.
