b05592. Old Bank, France Street in the process of demolition. The bank opened on Saturday, 7 March 1818. It is the traditional home of the first local savings bank. It's first trustees were Rev. Thomas Starkie, J. and W. Feilden, John Hornby, John Fowden-Hindle, J.F. Butler and Joseph Birley. It's first actuary was Joseph Messenger. The photograph shows the apse of St Anne's R.C. Church on Paradise Street. Date of photograph is 1957. M. 91 Bla.
