Moorgate Fold Works 001

Moorgate Fold Works Livesey.rnHeald, reed and yarn doubling works started in 1873 by Robert Hogg, a native of Cumberland. 31 employees in 1881. Extetnded 1883 and 1890. A limited Company was formed in 1907 of which John Thomas Rowntree later became one of the major shareholders. Rowntree was also connected with J and R Astley of Higson Street. The works almost completely rebuilt about 1913-14. By the 1950's 8,000 doubling spindles were in use, employing 140 persons. During this period the reed and heald side of the buinesss was phased out and the firm concentrated on cotton yarn doubling. Robert Hogg Limited has ceased trading by 1982 and the works was eventully sold to a firm of clothing manufacturers. rnMike Rothwell.
