Moss Bridge Mill Darwen 001

Moss Bridge Weaving Mill, Darwen. rnLarge brick built weaving shed erected 1912 by the Darwen Mill Building Company Limited. The mill was leased and eventually sold to J and L Ward of Unity Mill. Lower Darwen. J and L Ward ran the mill until 1955, by which time a range of fabrics was being made. In 1956 the mill was sold to the Baird Group of India Mill for the production of carpet yarns. Following 1he 1974 sale of India Mill, Moss Bridge Yarns was formed to continue this business. Although a majot investment was made in new plant the mill was a victim of recession and closed in 1982. rnThe building was brifly used as warehousing by Leyland Paint and Wallcovering, before its sale to the present owners, Northern Box. In 1988 the bulk of the 1912 mill was demolished. Only a small part of the preparation building with a northern light roof remains.rnMike Rothwell.
