b23033. Netlon Plastic Manufacturers, Kelly Street, Mill Hill. Built upon the former site of the Mill Hill Congregational Church. In 1956 Brian Mercer invented the Netlon process in which he made a net, not by weaving, but by the integral extrusion of molten plastic into mesh structures. This won him the Queen's Award for Technological Achievement. The factory is now demolished. Date of photograph 1967. M. 53.
