Mill Hill Cotton Works 001

Mill Hill Cotton works, Livesey.rnJoseph Eccles' factory, constructed 1844-45 on the site of Mill Hill Printworks. the mill made use of the printworks water supply and was powered by a 50 hp waterwheel and two beam engines. By 1851 George Whiteley of Halifax had taken the works on lease. About 450 employees in 1851. Whitley and co left in 1856 following the erection of albion Cotton. Works sold to Hodgkinson, Swain and Codling in 1862. Additons made to both weaving and spinning departments. By the 1880's the mill containesd 39,180 mule spindles. Property was sold in 1933, demolition of weaving sheds followed. the four storey spinning block used for storage and footwear manufactuire until fire of 1965. Demolished 1970. The site turned into a scrap metal site. Now housing.
