Lion Brewery, Little Harwood.rnAcquired by Alfred Nuttall in 1892, who formed a company to run the brewery and 105 public houses. The brewery became Matthew Brown Ltd. in 1927, when it was taken over by the Preston based company. In 1987 Matthew Brown Ltd., together with 608 public houses, was taken over by Scottish & Newcastle who subsequently closed the brewery, despite an earlier promise to the contary.rnFurther reading can be found in Mike Rothwell's 'Industrial Heritage: Part Two'.
