Kissing the Shuttle 001

Kissing the shuttle was the term used for a process by which weavers used their mouths to pull thread through the eye of a shuttle when the pirn (A pirn is a rod onto which weft thread is wound for use in weaving) was replaced. It was banned in Lancashire in about 1952 but continued to be carried out by weavers. M. 3.
