b03067.Independant Academy, Ainsworth Street.rnBlackburn Independant Academy, for the education of students for the Independent Ministry, was founded in 1816, the college premises being situated in Ainsworth Street. It was the fore-runner of the Lancashire Independent College, Whalley Range, Manchester, its first theological tutor and president the Rev.Joseph Fletcher. The Academy was moved from Blackburn some years later, but the memory is still retained by a plaque. S53.(this building has been demolished)
