Hollinshead mill 1859 weaving shed by Eccles Shorrock and Company. 150 people were employed at the mill. After the failure of Eccles Shorrock, Brother and Comapny, in 1882, the buildings were leased to tenant manufacturers. The first of these E and G. Hindle of Blackburn, ran the mill from 1883 to 1891, when the Hollinshead Mill Company Limited, was formed. This Company moved to Blackburn in 1893, where it ran sucessfully for may years and its lease was taken over by Holden Martin and Company of Hindle Street Mill, Darwen. Robert Martin gave up the mill in 1898, returning to Orchard Mill, Darwen and the last tenant, Riley Smalley, took over. By this date 333 looms were running. The refusal of Liverpool Corporation, owners of the mill and surrounding watersheds, to improve the building lead to the removal of Riley Smalley in 1903, and the demolition of the mill. rnMike Rothwell.
