Glider Darwen 001

18th August 1935 With his homemade glider, Mr Ronald finch of Marsh House Cottages, Darwen, gave his first exhibition. In the presence of a large crowd on the moorland above Hoddlesden. The machine had taken nine months to build. After a couple of failed attempts the glider was moved to higher ground when it eventually managed to carry Mr Finch off, before crashing. The plucky aviator was unhinjured.
